About this Site
My pseudonym is Spencer and I’ve been lucky enough to have lived down the street from Robert Service’s cabin for the last 25 years or so. I’ve witnessed hundreds, if not thousands of pilgrims sauntering past my doorstep to pay tribute to the ‘bard of the north’ at his cabin on Eighth Ave.
For the longest time I’ve wanted to create a site devoted to my long gone neighbour Robert Service. Over time I hope to publish as much information as possible for all of us Service enthusiasts.
Of course the idea is to interact with one another via the comments form. I’d be very appreciative of any advice on how to improve this web site. Please bear with me as I add more content.
Below is a picture I took of Service’s cabin which is now operated by Parks Canada as an interpretive centre where readings are performed every day during the summer months.

Dear Spenser,
I live in Paris, France.
October 31, 2009
I have been to Dawson City, traded room and board for cooking breakfast for borders for a few weeks. I am writing a roadbook novel, that has Dawson City in it. It is a turning point in the book, actually.
I was writing a line, where I said that there was a picture of the poet, Robert Service beside the poker table in Diamond Tooth Gerties — and went on to google, “Robert Service.”
I found your site, which I find mighty friendly. I will enjoy reading some of Service’s poems now, thanks to you.
Good work.
Best wishes,
Pamela
Dear Pamela,
Thanks for finding my web site and your kind comments.
And may your novel be a great success. I hope to see it on the bookshelves here in Dawson.
Kindest regards,
Spencer
